· NEBOSH National General Certificate in occupational safety and health. (RefComp/01)

This course is aimed at persons in organisations who have a responsibility
for health and safety. This course is carried out over a 3 week period, consisting
of 3 one week sessions in each consecutive month. The course is examination
qualified and consists of 2 written papers and a workplace inspection assessment
and a subsequent report.

The NEBOSH certificate is now recognised by Employers as the UK,s premiere
foundation health and safety qualification.

· NEBOSH Construction certificate

Aimed at Site Managers and safety teams who work in the Construction
industry, Compass HSC is licensed to deliver the NEBOS Construction
certificate in occupational safety and health.Taught over 3 by 1 week block
sessions, culminating in an exam consisting 2 written papers and a workplace
audit , this qualigfication is a must for those persons involved in the
construction and building sector, and is a declared recognised qualification
to demonstrate competency for those organisations and individuals who are
involved in the aplication of the Construction ( design and Management )
regulations, particularly, Architects , designers , Surveyors, Site
Managers, Contract Managers.

· IOSH Managing Safely. (Ref Comp/02)

The course is ideal for people in organisations who have to manage risk and resources, typically line managers. The aims of the course is to ensure safety requirements are appreciated, provide the skills to critically review their own departmental systems for safety, and identify opportunities to introduce new controls or implement changes as appropriate to make their department work more safely.

The course is made up of 7 core modules and 1 organisation- specific one, which is a work place assignment carried out in the students own time. The overall timetable for the tutorial sessions is approximately 1 week, (36hours).This course is externally verified an certified.

· Risk Assessment (Ref Comp/03)

This course offers an introduction to the legal requirements of carrying out risk assessments which is a requirement under the Management of Health and safety at work Regulations, whilst also offering an opportunity to develop awareness of hazards in the work place, recognise levels of risk and the appropriate control measures.

· Manual Handling (Ref Comp/04)

This course offers the participant a general awareness of the legal requirements of the regulations, combined with practical experience for carrying out a manual handling assessment, the nature and types of injuries that can occur through poor lifting and carrying techniques and the correct approach to preventing musculoskeletal injuries and Work related upper limb disorder.

· COSHH( Control of substances hazardous to health regulations)
(Ref Comp/05)

Participants will gain an insight into the type of chemical hazards that exist in the work place and how the application of this regulation can minimise the risk from exposure to substances harmful to the health of persons at work. This workshop offers a practical approach to explaining the fundamental and practical requirements of COSHH, practical control measures, material safety data sheets, through to occupational health monitoring.

· Display Screen equipment (Ref Comp/06)

PC users and Employers will benefit from this course. Structured to identify the legislative requirements of the regulations, and a practical approach to carrying out a workstation assessments. Participants will learn about the consequences of inadequate workstations in terms of the mental and physical wellbeing of users.

· Fire and Fire Management (Ref Comp/07)

Participants will learn the basic principles of how fire spreads, the classes of fire, and the type of fire extinguishers, including practical demonstrations of fire extinguishers. The requirements of the fire precautions ( workplace ) regulations, and practical guidance as to compliance and hence mitigation of fire risk in the work place.

· Coping with stress in the workplace (Ref Comp/08)

Currently 6.5 million working days are lost due to stress – related illness.This course is aimed at Employers and introduces them to the concept of stress in the work place, the symptoms, the legal position of employers and the measures that can be taken to tackle stress.

· Electrical safety in the work place (Ref Comp/09)

This course introduces participants to the hazards from electrical equipment, the legal requirements made under the Electricity at work act, and the practical measures that can be taken in order to ensure that all electrical systems are maintained in a safe condition.


· Introduction to the Health and safety at work Act (Ref Comp/010)
This course concentrates on the legal duties of Employers and the self- employed under section 2 and section 3 of the Act, and the general requirements on employees made under section7 and 8.This informative course provides Employers with a basic understanding of their legal duties towards their Employees.This is an interactive workshop intended to establish the principles for good health and safety management.

· First aid at work (Ref Comp/011)

This course is intended for those persons at work who have a responsibility for administering first aid as a qualified first aider under the First aid at work regulations 1981. The course is provided by qualified nurses and takes 4 days including examination.

Specialist courses

· Construction ( Design and Management) Regulations (Ref Comp/012)

This course provides an appreciation of the roles and responsibilities of all duty holders. The principles of the regulations, and the timings of appointments. Explanation and practical advice on selection of duty holders in terms of competency, and the requirements of the Health and safety plan.

· Managing of Contractors (Ref Comp/013)

A practical guide to the selection and management of contractors. Contractual responsibilities, and the legal perspective. Method statements and risk assessments. Health and safety responsibilities, Safety incentives and strategies.

This course is aimed at those persons who control or manage contractor resource when undertaking work in the occupiers premises.

· Safe and unsafe act auditing (Ref Comp/014)

This course is designed to explore the benefits of auditing as proactive means of preventing accidents or incidents in the work place. This course introduces the participant to work place auditing techniques, types of audits, and the reporting of findings.

This course is primarily aimed at line managers who have to some extent responsibilities for people and risk at the place of work.
